Alright guys, the yellow DHL man dropped a Touch Pro on my doorstep today. The unboxing experience was the best I’ve ever seen.
It’s not as thick as pictures make it out to be. It’s less wide and tall than most phones (like the AT&T Tilt, for example), so you don’t notice the depth as much when in hand or in your pocket.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be following in Nishanth’s footsteps by posting about unique features of the Touch Pro - it’s got a few differences to the Diamond, like the keyboard (duh), microSD expansion, bigger battery, and TV-Out.
Until then - go ahead, ask me anything about the Touch Pro!

I would like to know how the battery performs with Wifi, 3G and GPS all turned on. Hopefully, it will perform well..
Also would like to know how you like the screen size, I’ve heard some people say that the 2.8 inch screen is a little small for web browsing and such.
Would appreciate your input on these issues.
Thanks!
- Mohammad

Mohammad - Just got it today, so I can’t answer the question about battery life. About the screen - it’s a 2.8″ screen but it has VGA resolution which provides plenty of screen data to make web browsing enjoyable.

hey Brandon, I was wondering if you got this to run on ATT network or did you get the upcoming cmda version? It sure seems like their will not be a T-mobile version unless you unlock it on edge, which to me makes no sense but anyway. I am really tempted to switch to Sprint to grab the Diamond but I’m not sure if I can live without a keyboard. i would think messaging on the diamond will be harder.

Nice! Doesn’t look as thick as I expected. Wanna trade?
btw, following my footsteps? I feel so proud. ;D
August 18th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Oh yeah, are you one of the first to get it? I heard it just started released.
August 18th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
oh no I’m spamming the comments! I just realized it came with the case from your video. Is that the one that cleans off all the fingerprints?
Flash for the camera? Not fair :D. Probably should have done an unboxing vid too. I don’t think I talked or breathed too much when I got the Diamond…

@Dave: This is the unlocked GSM version that will work on AT&T or T-Mobile. I’m getting EDGE speeds on AT&T right now - what’s great is that the TP automatically configured itself for AT&T data.
@Nishanth: It sort of wipes off the finger prints. I’d say that it cleans off surface dust, because to really remove finger prints, as you know, requires some agitation.

I was wondering if you’d be able to help me make a keyboard mapper using the keys on your touch pro, I’d appreciate it

What do you mean, CT?
August 18th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
The HTC Fuze (aka the AT&T Touch Pro) has certain keys, or shortcuts that the HTC Touch Pro does not like the Windows key, or the OK Key
I don’t have an HTC Touch Pro to scan those keys myself so that I can remap them to those on an AT&T Touch Pro (HTC Fuze) keyboard

Alltouchsite giveaway perhaps. =)

Brandon, it sure looks like Sprint is getting the Diamond very soon and they are keeping the processor intact unlike Verizon. As much as I would not like to switch to Sprint, this may be the phone or the TP to make me do it. Does anyone know if the CMDA Sprint network is equal to the ATT 3g or better? Also, I know Verizon has a great network but does Sprint have the same level of performance. If not, I will probably wait on T-mobile until they roll out the 3g with WM touchsceen devices.

AT&T has HSDPA and Sprint has EVDO Rev A. Both are comparable in terms of speed.

I’m curious about lagg when using the MicroSD card with MP3s or any application. Even GPS software running from the MicroSD card.
August 19th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
There is no perceptible lag, Snafoo. Transfer rates for microSD cards are almost that of inbuilt flash memory.

Is it true that the Touch Pro does not have the g sensors?
August 20th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
The g-sensor is there, but like the Diamond, its use is quite limited.
August 20th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Dave Riley: Sprint will be getting the Touch Pro soon, so just wait a bit if you want the keyboard.
August 21st, 2008 at 10:13 am
Did your unit come with the marble game that shows off the g-senors abilities?
August 21st, 2008 at 10:45 am
Yup - Teeter.

Sprint Rev A speeds are faster then AT&T 3g speeds….I have a mogul and my friend has the Iphone 3g and my phones internet is still fast

Does the accelerometer work like the diamond? If you are using Opera Mobile and flip it sideways, does it rotate? I feel like it doesn’t like the diamond does…
thanks
August 21st, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Mike - yeah, the accelerometer works in the same places, which are limited: Opere and photo gallery. Oh, and the game Teeter =D.

Thanks celticchrys and YounG E,
I was just a little worried about Sprint since they get such low marks as a company. but I guess they can only go up! I am glad to hear the data speed is good on Sprint since I will be using either device more for that than voice. Still on the fence regarding getting a Diamond or TP. keyboard is nice to have but the multiple Diamond keypads including the one the Shadow (20 key)uses is great.
August 22nd, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Yeah - if you really don’t need the keyboard, the Diamond is your best bet.
August 23rd, 2008 at 11:34 am
Regarding the keyboard, how easy is it to find the keys while the phone is in your pocket say for controlling GSPlayer? I was hoping to replace a few devices I own, one being a MP3 player. And again about the keyboard how does it stand up to multiple button presses say for controlling SM@RTsnes? I would like to replace my GameBoy Advance SP too.
August 23rd, 2008 at 11:37 am
You should probably try GSen for getting rotation everywhere else as well.
August 24th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Soul-Est: Since there are so many keys on the keyboard, finding the keys without looking is touch unless you can feel for one of the edges of the keyboard and find the key you want from there.
As far as multiple key presses - it can do keyboard shortcuts like Control+C/X/V like on a desktop, which makes me assume that it will work with game emulators that use multiple presses.

Can you post size comparison pictures like you did with the Diamond, but with the Shadow vs Diamond vs Touch Pro? Most curious about the size compared to my Shadow.
