The Touch Diamond Feature of the Day continues on! Today, I’ll be giving you a brief on both the main and secondary cameras. The main camera, which every variant of the Diamond will come with, is a 3.15 MP camera with autofocus. The main camera lives up to expectations and is one of the few smartphone cameras that can actually substitute as a camera. The color quality was vivid both indoors and outdoors. The autofocus is a nice touch that really helps with macro (close-range) photography and brings out textures and can also be used for taking pictures of text, which makes it useful with a scanner application like ScanR. Read on to find out more and see some test images taken with both cameras.
In addition to the regular camera mode, the HTC Camera app supplied with the phone allows for video recording at with a great framerate. The panoramas on the Touch Diamond is pretty noteworthy as it was able to stitch the images back even if I was a little off from the stitch point. Also, you can take burst shots, sports shots, MMS video, contact pictures, and even geotag images via GPS. Check below to see for a gallery of images taken with the camera, including a panaroma. Note: click on a picture you want to see larger, then click it a second time for the higher resolution shot.
- Test indoors picture of my dog
- Another picture of my dog
- Test outdoors image in my backyard. Color quality was very good.
- Panorama in my backyard. Though there are some small blur areas, the auto-stitching is great.
- Test macro-image with text. Using the autofocus, the quality of the text sharpens to be very legible.
- Macro-photography example with a curtain's texture.
- First test image with the secondary camera.
- A much clearer and defined pic of my dog with the secondary camera.
All European and Asian Diamonds, excluding Indian 2G variants, come equipped with a secondary front-facing CMOS-sensor camera. For this reason, the Touch Diamond does not come with a self-portrait mirror. Other than that, the front-facing camera can be used for videos and also for video calling, though it is only available on 3G networks. I’ve still got hopes for T-mo :D. The last two images in the gallery above of my dog are taken with the secondary camera. What, you thought you’d get to see me in a self-portrait pic?
Of course, this all goes hand in hand with HTC’s Album apps. Come here tomorrow to get an idea about another awesome feature of the Touch Diamond!

Looks nice but they are saying that there will be a
dual release in Oct for the Diamond(Victor) and the

Good find. The red touch diamond looks nice. In fact, any colored Diamond looks nice. Take a look at this color changing Diamond: http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=news&id=5694. If you read the whole article, though there’s a gallery full of images that I took while testing the camera. I’ll post one on the front soon.

Color shifting technology is slick. It reminds of
mood ring technology from the 70’s, or prismatic
lip gloss or pictures that change before your eyes
based on the angle you tilt the card. Do you have
any inside scoop on Sprint’s Diamond release date? I am hoping it’s still set for Sept 2nd.
